To answer the question of which AI chatbot is leading the race, we must first determine where the finish line is. In other words, we need to determine what the criteria are for evaluating the capabilities of AI-based chatbots. So which business competitions will ChatGPT vs. Bard vs. Bing participate in?

What do you need an AI chatbot for in your business?

The list of criteria by which to judge ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing is long. Therefore, before you get down to reading it, ask yourself: what corporate tasks do you want your chatbot AI to help you with? Which are the most important, and which are optional?

Will it be primarily the generation of summaries from company meetings, or rather the ability to process materials in different languages in a single thread? Or will it be most essential to be able to generate product descriptions based on an image?

Have the answers in the back of your mind, and it will be easy for you to judge what you should pay attention to first and foremost. So let’s take a closer look at the most critical criteria for evaluating the business suitability of the most popular AI chatbots.

Understanding commands by AI chatbots

The first criterion is the ability of artificial intelligence to understand human speech (Natural Language Understanding). For business, it primarily means the ability to execute commands and accurately respond to queries.

ChatGPT, especially in the Plus version, handles complex commands very well, but when using it on a computer you have to type them on the keyboard. Speech recognition is only available in the mobile app. Bard and Bing support voice input of queries in the desktop version as well, so on the first point, the ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing win goes equal to the latter two.

Generating summaries

The ability to encapsulate long material in a short nutshell allows chatbots to create text summaries (summarization) and even analyze data. The most important features are the volume of material AI chatbots can summarize, as well as the accuracy of selecting the most relevant parts of the text to be included in the summary. When it comes to the generation of summaries by AI chats, priority is given to GPT Chat, because if you enable one of the plug-ins for reading pdf files, for example, AskYourPDF or Aii PDF, you can easily generate a summary of a meeting transcript or a long corporate report.

AI chatbot reasoning

Reasoning (reasoning) is a key skill for analyzing complex issues. It is through it that AI chat can help make better business decisions. Although sometimes you have to help AI chat a bit by prompting it with reasoning (Chain of Thought, CoT) in the prompt, they are all getting better at it. The winner, however, is ChatGPT because of its Advanced Data Analysis module, which can not only solve simple tasks but also make it easier to conclude data.

Multilingualism

All three AI chatbots can handle multiple languages (multilingual). However, you need to carefully check the answers they generate. This is because they can make surprising mistakes, such as mispronouncing words. In this competition, it is not easy to point out the winner of the ChatGPT vs. Bard vs. Bing struggle, as the quality of the answers depends on the chosen language and the questions asked.

Consistency of answers with facts

If we want to ask AI chat questions about facts and get correct answers, the performance evaluation criterion for ChatGPT vs. Bard vs. Bing will be factuality. For the generated answers to be accurate, the AI must use actual data.

In this case, it is best to opt for Bing or Bard. Bing generates answers using directly the resources of the Internet, and you can also decide to make the answers more precise thus limiting creativity, which becomes a disadvantage when there is no data needed for the answer.

The second choice would be Bard, which is equipped with the ability to check the source of knowledge. Just click the Googled letter “G” under the chat answer and the truthful information will be highlighted in green.

Note – Bard does not always provide the opportunity to check the answers, sometimes instead it displays questions that redirect to the search results. Then you have to confirm the veracity of the answers yourself.

Interface

To effectively handle the capabilities of AI chatbots in business, we need to consider more than just the answers they provide. How we interact with the artificial intelligence is also important. Although, at first glance, the interfaces of all three AI chatbots are similar, when choosing a tool for daily work, it is worth considering whether we want to use:

  • the side panel of the search assistant – then it is worth betting on Bing in the Edge browser,
  • excellent speech recognition and generation – here ChatGPT Plus is second to none in the mobile app, which uses Whisper complemented by image recognition directly from the camera,
  • a quick choice between three versions of the answer – Bard will work best.

Price

Bing and Bard are unbeatable in terms of price, as they can be free of charge. ChatGPT is also free, but only the basic version, based on GPT-3.5, without additional plug-ins and the ability to attach documents and images. ChatGPT’s full version costs $20 per month plus VAT. However, many people consider it the best-invested $20 they spend each month.

Another question remains the value of the learning process of the models used by AI chatbots, for these are experimental solutions. Users agreeing to the terms of service allow chatbot developers to use the conversations to train the next versions of LLMs.

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing: Privacy.

Privacy and security in the use of AI chatbots have raised concerns among users and governments. So how do the three platforms handle data protection?

  • ChatGPT – has stricter processing rules than Bing. It does not link conversations to user accounts. It uses encryption during sessions, while in the Enterprise plan, it provides a high level of protection for corporate data,
  • Bard – processes conversations within a user’s Google account, making it easier to manage data, but lowering anonymity. Allows you to export and delete conversations. Applies data protection following Google’s policies. Conversations are linked to the user’s Google account, which allows to create emails in the chat window and save responses to Google documents, but raises data protection concerns,
  • Bing – does not require a login, which can provide greater anonymity and privacy. However, the lack of account integration means that a non-logged-in user has no control over the data entered into the chat room.

Multimodality

Handling different types of data, that is the ability to process not only text, but also image, data, and code, are very important features of AI chatbots, which most likely set the course for their future development – versatile personal assistants. Although their capabilities are changing rapidly, at the moment only Bing offers the option of both attaching and generating images.

Admittedly, the attached image is first described in words anyway, and then generated from a prompt, but the ability to translate one image into another within a chat works on the imagination. It’s not just the ability to place a product on any background, but also to create a sketch of an interface similar to an existing solution with a single click.

AI chat personalization

Customizing chat AI to your individual needs and preferences without having to type prompts every time? Such an option is currently provided only by ChatGPT Plus. With the Custom Instructions option, you can, for example, describe your company profile or define the personas you want to target with your marketing materials.

Availability

Accessibility is another feature that ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing differs in:

  • ChatGPT – requires creating an OpenAI account and logging in, which may be a barrier for some users, but provides greater privacy; voice support is available in the mobile version,
  • Bard – convenient log-in with a Google account, especially useful for Gmail, GCP and Workspace users,
  • Bing – can be used without logging in, which may attract users who value privacy, but the full capabilities of Bing can be used when logged in and only in the Edge browser.

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing. Which AI chatbot is leading the race?

Each of the AI chatbots is the best in one of the categories. Depending on the task you care most about, choose:

  • BingChat, the best search assistant – Internet access significantly expands the scope and functionality of the AI chatbot, so the free ChatGPT having outdated knowledge falls off the podium here. The winner, on the other hand, is Bing, which performs best for fast delivery of answers.
  • ChatGPT, the best at writing – According to the evaluation criteria created by a group of researchers from China and the US published in the text “A Survey on Evaluation of Large Language Models,” it is ChatGPT that leads the way in evaluating text quality. It is known for its proficiency in writing in various categories, such as:
    • Informational writing, such as reports or short, factual messages,
    • argumentation, needed, for example, in negotiations,
    • Creative writing, which is essential for creating ad text or catchy headlines,
  • Bard, the most fully integrated with other tools – accessibility is the strongest side of the AI chatbot from Google. This broad integration with Google Workspace will be particularly attractive to companies already using other solutions from this ecosystem.

Selecting the right chatbot depends on an organization’s unique needs and priorities. Each platform has its strengths and weaknesses, which can affect overall effectiveness and satisfaction in different business scenarios. Finding the right balance between functionality, accessibility, privacy and price should determine your pick of AI chatbot to make the most of this kind of tool.
