In this model, they are not permanently employed by a single company but perform different jobs for various employers, depending on their needs. The development of this way of working is being driven by digital technology, which makes it much easier for employees to find jobs and collaborate with companies around the world.
The gig economy is undoubtedly bringing revolutionary changes to the labor market, affecting both employees and companies across industries, and thus the labor market as a whole. This impact can be both positive and negative.
In many cases, using temporary workers can be less expensive than hiring full-time employees because companies do not have to pay the costs associated with traditional employment, such as health insurance, pension, and paid vacation.
Thanks to the development of the gig economy, companies can easily adapt their human resources to the current needs, i.e. increase or decrease the number of employees depending on the demand for their products or services.
The gig economy also gives employers access to a wider pool of talent – they can hire freelancers with different skills who are also working for other companies. This allows them to leverage their experience and skills for their projects without having to compete with other organizations.
One of the biggest challenges of the gig economy for businesses is the lack of control over freelancers. Organizations across industries need to consider how to harness the potential of the gig economy while ensuring the well-being of employees and compliance with applicable regulations.
