AI in Poland compared to other European countries

Poland, one of the European leaders in the field of artificial intelligence, is showing impressive growth in interest and investment in AI technologies. According to the Poland Country Report, 2023 was the “year of AI” in Poland, with a 22% increase in the number of companies implementing AI compared to 2022.

If Poland keeps up its current level of digital adoption, it could add up to PLN 576 billion to the Polish economy by 2030. Moreover, 94% of Polish companies that have integrated AI technologies have seen an increase in revenue, placing Poland above the European average of 75%. Moreover, 44% of Polish companies declare a deep understanding of cloud computing – the best result of all European countries.

Poland occupies then a strong position, contributing to the development of AI in Europe. This can be seen not only in the high revenue growth of companies that use AI but also in understanding modern technologies and the need to adopt them. However, to maintain and develop this position, it is necessary to continue investing in R&D, as well as supporting educational initiatives and international collaboration. With that in mind, let’s take a look at which companies are leading the way in the implementation and development of artificial intelligence.

AI leaders in Poland

The Polish AI scene shows dynamic development and innovation. There are companies here that are true leaders in their fields. The Polish unicorn, Eleven Labs, a startup founded by Mateusz Staniszewski and Piotr Dąbkowski, probably doesn’t need to be introduced to anyone. The company, which makes voices generated by artificial intelligence sound as if they were alive, is not only earning a fortune but also offering more and more new solutions – including cloning your voice into the Eleven Labs library. This opens up new earning opportunities for voiceover experts, dubbers, or actors who work with voice.

However, AI leaders in Poland are not just voices. Examples of such companies include MIM Fertility, Voice Lab, Synerise, and Vasco AI, which are not only contributing to the local market but are also gaining wider international recognition.

MIM Fertility

MIM Fertility(https://mimfertility.ai/) is a company founded by Ph.D. Piotr Vygotsky and Ula Sankowska in 2019. It uses the latest research in machine learning to solve some real-world problems in healthcare.

The company is developing two AI-based products to improve standards of care, particularly in infertility treatment:

  • – an application that facilitates embryo selection by analyzing images. The algorithm recognizes the maturation stages of the embryos, enabling precise selection of those with the best chance of pregnancy. The app is expected to increase the efficiency of IVF, reduce risks, and save time and money,
  • – a tool for fertility clinics to support ultrasound that enables three times faster follicle analysis, process automation, increased precision through AI, and the ability to standardize large-scale monitoring and data archiving.

The MIM team consists of more than 50 highly qualified experts. It has already implemented more than 30 machine learning projects, and the value of all MIM projects has reached €6 million. The company also won the Best Innovation Award at the European Fertility Care Awards in 2023.

Voice Lab

Voice Lab (https://voicelab.ai/) is a company that specializes in conversational AI and offers products such as TRURL for e-commerce and customer service.

Voice Lab’s TRURL project involves the development of a platform for creating modern dialog systems, or advanced chatbots. The platform will use examples of human interaction, which will be automatically analyzed and transformed into graphs.

Based on these structures, the system will generate communication models reflecting the behavior observed in the imported data. Users will be able to modify these models using a graphical interface manually. The platform will be equipped with tools for testing and verifying the performance of the system, allowing poorly modeled elements to be identified and improved.

The innovation of the project implemented by Voice Lab is to increase the fluidity of interaction with artificial intelligence through the use of practical dialog models

Synerise

Synerise (https://www.synerise.com/) uses AI to understand and predict individual behavior based on available data. This helps make the right decisions and serve millions or billions of customers.

The company provides a multi-functional platform that combines data processing, AI tools, and execution scenarios in one place to help ambitious organizations accelerate growth and increase competitiveness.

Vasco AI

Vasco AI was founded in 2008 by Maciej Góralski. Its flagship product is Vasco Translator V4, a translation device that can understand 76 languages from speech, 108 languages from image text, and 90 languages from manually entered text. It’s a solution designed to facilitate communication around the world, especially in business and official contexts through access to:

  • free Internet for translation – Vasco Translator V4 has a built-in SIM card that provides free and unlimited access to the Internet in almost 200 countries around the world. So you don’t have to worry about additional roaming or WiFi charges,
  • voice, photo, and text translation – so you can easily communicate with people, read signs, menus, schedules and other documents,
  • precise and fast translation – Vasco Translator V4 uses ten translation engines that provide up to 96% translation accuracy. The translation process is very fast, taking less than 0.5 seconds, and the pronunciation is clear and natural.

Vasco Translator V4 is also equipped with the MultiTalk application, which allows you to chat with up to 100 people in different languages. This is very useful, for example, at an international conference. Each participant can send text and voice messages in their language, and the application translates them on the fly. The device has won two prestigious design awards: Red Dot Award and NY Product Design Award.

Meetings and conferences

However, the development of AI companies in Poland is not all that matters. Meetings and conferences play a key role in the development of the AI ecosystem, enabling the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices between entrepreneurs, researchers, and public sector representatives.

AI in Poland involves events such as AI SUMMIT, PPRAI, and Infoshare, which are important platforms for discussing the future of AI and its impact on various sectors of the economy.

AI SUMMIT (https://aisummitpoland.pl/), scheduled for October 9-10, 2024 in Warsaw, is an event designed to explore the potential of AI and highlight the importance of its implementation for an organization’s survival in a competitive market. The conference will bring together business practitioners, digitalization leaders, technology experts, and representatives of institutions influencing the development and use of AI in Poland. AI SUMMIT 2024 will include four thematic tracks, eight workshops, and 80 speakers and will host up to 400 participants.

In contrast, the PPRAI conference (https://pp-rai.pl/), organized by the Warsaw University of Technology in cooperation with the Polish Alliance for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, focuses on the exchange of research results and collaboration between the AI community, research institutions, and business partners. PPRAI 2024 invites both researchers and business representatives and offers sessions such as Young.AI and AI Business Project Reports.

The last of the conferences is Infoshare (https://infoshare.pl/) – one of the largest events dedicated to new technologies and startups in Central and Eastern Europe. It will be held in Gdansk on May 22-23. Although Infoshare is not exclusively dedicated to artificial intelligence, AI-related topics have a fair share here. The conference promotes technology and innovation, connects startups and companies, and organizes various side initiatives such as workshops, meetings, and competitions.
